CAS No 7803-55-6
Application / Uses Preparation Ammonium metavanadate, NH4VO3, a yellow crystalline solid which dissolves in water, is the most common laboratory vanadate reagent, along with potassium metavanadate, KVO3.
Application / Uses Preparation a vanadate is a compound containing an oxoanion of vanadium generally in its highest oxidation state of +5. The simplest vanadate ion is the tetrahedral, orthovanadate, VO43− anion, which is present in e.g. sodium orthovanadate and in solutions of V2O5 in strong base (pH > 13 ). Conventionally this ion is represented with a single double bond, however this is a resonance form as the ion is a regular tetrahedron with four equivalent oxygen atoms.
Application / Uses Preparation Sodium metavanadate is a yellow solid which is soluble in water. Its use is limited due to its hygroscopic property. Its natural forms include mineral metamunirite (anhydrous) and a dihydrate, munirite. Both are very rare, metamunirite is now known only from V- and U-bearing sandstone formations of central-western USA and munirite from Pakistan and South Africa.
